A close framing of the corner of an old house: the rusty metal roof takes up more than half the canvas, its overlapping sheets painted in broad strokes of brick pink, ochre and grey, and beneath the eave the dark vertical plank wall is visible. At the right the wooden gable rises with a ragged edge, and a thin ladder leans against the wall. The whitewashed, greenish-white wall descends into the foreground, where rubble and stones are painted in thick patches. The sky is a clear pale blue band. The interest falls on texture — metal, wood, lime — and on the way the light differentiates them.
