A pale country road enters at the lower right and bends towards the background, bordered on the right by a line of tall trees with slender trunks and sparse green-brown crowns. To the left stretches an almost flat dark green meadow rising to a line of blue-violet hills painted in horizontal strokes. The sky fills the upper third and is worked in thick white and bluish paint with visible brushmarks suggesting heavy cloud. The light is that of an overcast afternoon: there are no shadows, and the colour stays in muted green, brown and blue; the surface vibrates with short strokes set side by side.
