Landscape at Brebu

Peisaj la Brebu

An open landscape with a high vantage point: a yellow-green ridge rises at the centre and falls away to the left, its slopes treated in broad strokes of olive green, ochre, blue-grey and reddish-brown accents. In the foreground the ground breaks into darker, almost black patches marking bushes. Beyond the ridge the valley recedes in successive, ever paler blue bands. The sky fills more than half the canvas as an almost uniform blue surface, warmer towards the horizon. The simplicity is deliberate: two masses, two colours, a single crest line.
