Landscape at Brebu
Peisaj la Brebu

A lighter and more colourful version of the same motif: five orange-ochre haystacks line up in the foreground on a yellow-green meadow, their poles projecting like rays from the top. Behind them a group of grey barns and roofs is suggested in rapid strokes, and at the right a leafless tree rises in nearly dry brush. The sky is a grey-white wash with a trace of pink. The surface of the paper remains visible in many places, and the colour is allowed to run at the edges of the washes — a work made quickly, on the spot.
The family’s records list it as “Căpițe la Brebu”, with the dimensions reversed (about 28 × 38 cm).
