Landscape at Cornu

A watercolour in which the sky fills the upper third: a yellow-grey band across which dark, almost black clouds drift, allowed to run into the wet paper, with a clump of trees barely suggested on the horizon. Below, the hill descends in waves of blue-green, grey and brown-violet cut by dark lines marking crests and gullies; at the lower left a raw green slope closes the composition. A few brick-red accents appear in the middle. The technique is that of washes overlaid on wet paper with very few dry accents; the signature and title are written in pencil at the lower left.
