An almost monochrome watercolour portrait: the head of a young man seen frontally and slightly from the left, his dark hair treated in a dense brown-green wash allowed to run towards the forehead. The face is built from tones of pale pink and brown, with the white of the paper reserved for the light on cheek and forehead; the eyes, brows and mouth are marked by short reddish-brown strokes, and the gaze is directed downwards and to one side. Neck and shoulders are barely suggested. The background is an uneven grey and pink wash. The expression is restrained, and the technique direct, without corrections.
