Salcie la poartă (studiu 5)

A large willow stands at the centre of the canvas, its blackish-brown trunk rising straight and its crown opening into a grey-white mass laid on in broad knife strokes, through which thin brush-drawn branches slip. Behind it are two houses: a white one with a bright red roof at the left, a larger one with a crimson roof at the right. Beyond them the hill climbs in planes of pink-grey, brown and olive green with a dark crest. The foreground is a yard with a wattle fence. The colour is warm and muted, and the white of the crown gathers all the light.
