Early Autumn

An early-autumn landscape with two slender trees at the centre whose orange-yellow crowns light up against the cool ground of the surrounding wood. The vegetation is painted in blue-green, emerald and blue-grey in short loaded strokes that overlap without blending; at the left an open whitish-green slope descends gently and gives the composition air. In the foreground appears a passage of ground and water treated in patches of green, ochre and reddish brown. The bluish-white sky is visible only at the top, between the crowns. The whole work rests on the contrast between the warm central patch and the cool dominant everywhere else.
